Chuck Soper

Klaus Strelau

Jennifer Goshay

Chuck's first job, after receiving a degree in Computer Science from Chico State, was as a Mac developer working on MacDraft. After 3 1/2 years of hard work and valuable experience, and with half the team leaving to work on MacDraw for Claris, Chuck worked as a white water river raft guide for about six months. For the next 12+ years, he worked on statistics and data visualization products including StatView and JMP, and was especially proud to work for SAS Institute.

In 2004, he founded Vela Design Group where he's written the majority of the code and also provides tech support. Since 2007, he has hosted and organized sfMacIndie, an annual party that attracts 500+ Mac/iOS developers which takes place the evening before Apple's WWDC.

has degrees in mathematics and philosophy from MIT, and has 'not quite finished' his PhD in the UC Berkeley philosophy department. He worked at Apple for 9 years, the last 3 as a 3D graphics engineer (metafile, nurbs, binocular 3D without glasses, VRML). Earlier at Apple he was manager of a team of test tool coders. In 2002-3, 2007-8 and 2011-2 Klaus was a graduate student instructor in the UC Berkeley philosophy department; in 2011-2 he did upper division courses in philosophy of language and philosophy of mind.

He has been making significant contributions to Vela Design Group from the beginning in 2004. His specific contributions include maintenance of and original work on astronomical algorithms, expert advice on and implementation of 2D graphics code, general problem solving, and business strategy. His expertise is invaluable.

Jennifer has a diverse background in graphics, art, corporate event planning and foreign languages. With a degree in Italian from San Francisco State and as a graduate of Ex'pression College in Digital Arts/Animation, Jennifer has also worked within the independent film industry as a quick sketch storyboard and animatic artist. She has lived and worked in several countries and speaks Italian, Greek, and Japanese.

She joined Vela Design Group at the beginning in 2004, and has been highly involved in nearly all visual and interactive design aspects. This includes countless design brainstorming sessions as well as producing most of the graphics. Her biggest contribution is a strong sense of collaboration.
